DOCTRINE OF THE ANGELS

ABOUT THE ANGELS

We believe and teach that angels are created beings and are therefore not to be worshiped. Although they are supernatural beings with powers humans do not have, they are created by God to serve and to worship Him (see Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 148:1, 2; Luke 2:9-14; Hebrews 1:6, 7, 14; 2:6, 7; Revelation 5:11-14).

We believe there are both good and bad angels (Revelation 12:7-11). The bad angels are allied with the devil or Satan and have considerably less power and authority than good angels.

The good or Holy angels are under God’s authority (Colossians 1:16). They are offering continuous praise to God (see Isaiah 6:3 cf. Revelation 4:8), helping carry out His work on earth, serving believers (Hebrews 1:14), bringing and proclaiming God’s messages to people (Luke 1:26; Revelation 14:6-12), protecting God’s people and the helpless (Matthew 18:10), offering encouragement (Genesis 16:7), giving guidance (Exodus 14:19), carrying-out punishment and God’s judgment (2 Samuel 24:15-17; Acts 12:1-23; Revelation 20:1-3), patrolling the earth (Zechariah 1:9-14), and fighting the forces of evil (2 Kings 6:16-18; Revelation 20:1-2).
